The Hermit’s Cabin

Just beyond the wildflower-studded field behind Laura and Vincente’s homestead in Swanville, Maine—past raised-bed gardens, past a small sauna shed and a clawfoot tub on a wooded platform with candles, down a planked path—you’ll find the Hermit’s Cabin.  Originally built in the early 1990s as a quiet, meditative space for a Quaker by the name of Lucinda Selchie, Laura and Vincente have converted the cabin into a small, off-grid retreat for local artists to use as a micro-residency.  With no electricity, limited cell reception, and no amenities beyond a two-burner camp stove and a queen sized bed, the Hermit’s Cabin provides much needed solitude for creativity, undistracted thought, and wandering through the woods.
