Northeast Ramblers
Based in Portland, Maine, Northeast Ramblers rents overland adventure rigs with rooftop tents to help tourists bridge the sometimes-amorphous gap between front-country and backcountry exploration—and do some in comfort. On a three-day trip to Baxter State Park to capture some lifestyle imagery for Northeast Ramblers, we found ourselves having the strangest progression of days: going from wow, okay, that definitely wasn’t a road to let’s have pan-seared halibut for dinner. Northeast Ramblers makes both a reality. A full camp kitchen setup slides out from the back of the trucks, and I prepped a fancy dinner at Trout Brook Field Campground while everyone else set the table, mixed cocktails, and flipped through the Maine Gazetteer looking for alternative routes home. The foliage that year was far later than predicted, but the season’s first frost clutched lazily to picnic tables one morning and fog rose eerily from Nesowadnehunk Stream at first light—clear evidence of October.
